It’s that time of year in Michigan – Summer! You dropped your phone in the pool or lake – it happens to the best of us! While you are having fun in the sun, be prepared for the potential risk of water damage before it happens. Our phones hold pictures, notes, memories, and more. Try these 4 tips to save your phone after water exposure.
#1 Turn It Off First off – do not panic. Stressful situations get to everyone but panicking is never helpful. Most newer iPhones and Androids are water-resistant or even waterproof. Fish it out of wherever you dropped it, the lake, pool, even the sink, and turn it off immediately.
#2 Dry It Off Take your phone out of the case and begin to dry it off. Depending on what body of water you dropped it in, you may want to disinfect it with alcohol wipes or other cleaning cloths. Once cleaned, try to dry off your phone with a clean towel or light air from your hair dryer.
#3 The Rice Trick Unfortunately, this is a MYTH. The idea is that the uncooked rice will absorb the moisture from the phone. However, putting a water-damaged phone in a bag of rice is NOT a good idea. Sometime rice gets stuck in your charge port causing more issues. A good option would be to find several gel packs from your shoe boxes. Leave the gel packs intact and place them in a plastic bag with your phone. This is a safer option and helps draw moisture out.
